I think SKIL/CIR etc are all carrots for the "would be" immigrants to slog their ass off - ultimately, American Congress will only do something if
A. There is enough pressure from Business community to enact a change.
B. Persistent efforts by organization like Immigration Voice in educating the lawmakers and using lobbyists like QG&A to get our voices heard.
We have a legitimate cause but we have to use the right "modus operandi". We need each of the members of IV to go back and talk to their HR/Legal/Managers/VPs/CIOs etc to ensure that our voices are heard. Immigration Voice needs corporate backing and you can help here - make your employers aware of Immigration Voice and retrogression. Ask your employers to contact the Congressmen and Senators of your state on your behalf.

I got an email from my law firm, that my packet was refused to be accepted by USCIS.
I received the email from my law firm (Monday night - July 2) that:
Please note however your case was sent to Nebraska last night and did arrive - we tried!
Which means mine was sent or reached NSC sunday night or must have been hand delievered early Mon morning. Don't know exactly what happened. I just trust them!!!!
I didn't bother to ask my law firm further details. I will ping them first thing monday morning and try to give any update I get. I hope they have some proof of the refusal!!!!!!!............

I received Card Production Ordered email today for my EAD renewal. I hope I get the EAD for 2 years. Will keep you guys posted on the EAD validity once I get it.
I got the same email this morning and status said EAD was ordered on june 30th.
I am pretty sure we will get a 2yr EAD but will just have to wait 2 more days to confirm this.... I wonder if they are looking at the current status and if you are on h1b they are issued 1yr and processed it before june 30, while if you are currently on EAD, they kept them until June 30th.. I doubt it but just a theory...

You are reading my post selectively and not in its entirety. I did not say EAD is waste and useless, I said EAD is waste and useless without the removal of semilar or same job requirement in AC21 as USCIS will sooner or later deny AOS based on semilar\same job requirement. Do you know how many RFE\denial notices have been issued by USCIS to EAD\Ac21 workers? There is an entire thread running into several pages related to that. Scores of people wrote to USCIS ombudsman complaining about USCIS issuing denial notice to people whose I140 was revoked by previous employer even though Ac21 says AOS continues even if I140 is rovoked by previous employer. There are instances where USCIS has issued rfe to prove they are in a same\semilar job. History has shown USCIS uses issues like same\semilar job to kick people out. Based on the IO adjudicating your case, based on the economic climate etc USCIS has made life difficuly (current h1b crackdown is a example).
What I am saying is bring in protection to AOS by
-removing the same or semilar job requirement in AC21
-making sure USCIS does not deny AOS when previous employer revokes aproved i140.(even though ac21 says aos cannot be denied, USCIS is sending denail notice).
Yes EAD is absolutely better than H1b but not for long, when people start using EAD instead of H1b, USCIS will start denying AOS based on Same\semilar job or other grey areas (not working on EAD because of lay off) then you are back to square one. I am really pained to read anands post.I admit that everybody has a right to speak, it doesnt mean that one has to demoralize and demean ones efforts and so many other like minded IV members.
I came to know of this site last december untill I met one of the admnstrator who had come down here for a conference.Since then I have advocated this site to so many people and in my company its a Fortune 500 company we have lot of diverse memberships like Indian ,Chinese and various other countries memberships in our company.In our indian club we have about 100 employees of indian working for this company.Apart from circulating the site I have made it a policy of calling up people on phone every weekend and telling them about this site and work lying in front of us to get it done this year.
Do you think that I am helping this site or the IV core.NO I am helping myself.So please be consructive and help the cause and help yourself.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS--URGENT HELP!!!
My MTR was reconsidered--what a relief. Here is the response:
"Service motion to reopen or reconsider:
In the case at hand, the I-485 was denied because the underlying I-140 was revoked. However, the applicant is eligible for portability consideration under Ac21. Therefore, the applicant should have been notified of this eligibility before any final adverse action was taken on his I485. Pursuant to Part 103.5, Title 8, Code of Federal Regulations, the denied I-140 petition referenced above has been reopened/reconsidered."
My attorney says that what this means is that only my I140 that was revoked is now open and they have yet to make a decision on I485.
My question to fellow members of this forum:
1. Has any of you recived similar response to your MTR filing against wrongful I485 denial
2. Please note that my case is slightly peculiar in that the I140 was revoked and aproved labor certification was substitued--if some one was in similar situation, please respond with specifics?
My MTR was recieved my TSC on Feb 9th, i received receipt notice on Feb 16th and final approval was made on March 10th and the letter arrived on March 16th. I am glad and thankful that they understood the urgency of my situation. Now the hunt starts for NEXT STEPS?

All are politics. Some time back we heard that no other bills could be introduced until the CIR dies. This was told like it was fixed in stone. But now some congressmen introduces the SKIL bill. Ask these questions?
Does CIR needs to die to another similar bill get introduced?
What are the forces which drive to introduce a bill? Does a congressmen go to bed and get up in the morning with a bill?
Does congress / US Govt / people really care for immigrants? If not who cares?
Who can make any Bill get passed by the Govt? In how many days?
BUSINESS, BUSINESS, BUSINESS, TRADE, $$$$$,. Only big business people can influence anything in anywhere in the world. They will get what they want with any governments. Govt cannot run with the support of business people. First comes the business support then the mass votes.
This bill will be passed for sure before August. You and me are not behind this. Microsoft, CISCO and Oralce are the ones indirectly calling the shots. Anti immigrant groups can just talk and shout. Money($$$) will show it in action. Wait and Watch.

I recd EAD physical card today. My application was approved on 6/27/2008 and I had two LUD on my I-765 Case one on 06/29/2008 and 06/30/2008.
Mine is paper file renewal @NSC Applied on 05/18/2008.
I have one year validity starting from the old expiry date.

I dont mean to discourage folks here...
But here is what I have seen more often with MBA. Techies like programmers, business analysts in IT sector have done their MBAs from good schools and ended up doing the same job EVEN WITH GREENCARDS.
I have seen GC holders doing MBA and then after finishing MBA ending up with same job description with a 5% increase in pay.
So please do your research in HOW MBA is going to help you in your situation. Your job and your INTENDED JOB POST MBA may not really need you to have an MBA. And I have seen this way too often. So think before you pluck down 30,000 dollars on a degree that might do little benefit financially after you complete it.

I don't think the meeting will be a whole day afair. It might last half an hour to an hour max. Please consider the possibility of partial attendance, if possible, while attending your friends marriage - as every extra member attending the meet is a moralebooster to the rest of us.

We must enact practical, smart, and substantial immigration reform that reflects current economic and social realities, respects the core values of family unity and fundamental fairness, and upholds our tradition as a nation of immigrants. I believe substantial immigration reform is possible this year.
I have been persistently working with my colleagues to create and pass legislation that would enhance border security, while also providing a legitimate way for the estimated 12 million undocumented workers to come out of the shadows and earn United States citizenship. These undocumented workers should pass a series of strict and critical benchmarks, such as paying fines, learning English, and waiting at the back of the citizenship line behind those who have pursued legal means of attaining citizenship.
Comprehensive immigration reform is indeed an attainable goal and I believe that the REPAIR proposal provides a foundation on which we can build upon. The REPAIR proposal seeks to reform our immigration system by strengthening border security and interior enforcement, and requiring all employees to use biometric Social Security cards to gain employment. In addition, the proposal looks to implement a fair path to legalization for those already here and it includes proposals to enhance family reunification.
